About Mediterraneo

Mediterraneo is a distinguished family-owned Italian restaurant located at 1347 Tavern Rd, Alpine, CA 91901, that has been a beloved dining destination for over 25 years. Rooted deeply in Sicilian tradition, Mediterraneo’s culinary offerings are inspired by Mamma Anna, who emigrated from Sicily to the United States in 1962. Her recipes, passed down through three generations of the Croce family, bring authentic Mediterranean flavors to the Alpine community, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home[1][2].

The restaurant’s story is one of heritage and passion. Mamma Anna and Giovanni began their journey in Sicily, cooking soulful dishes that captured the essence of their homeland. Their daughter, Anna Maria, and her husband Enzo continued this legacy, blending hospitality and culinary expertise from Sicily to New York and eventually to San Diego. Today, the third generation, Gian Paolo and Eliana Croce, carry forward this tradition, having been raised in the restaurant environment themselves. This multi-generational dedication ensures that every dish served at Mediterraneo is crafted with love, authenticity, and a deep respect for Italian culinary culture[1].

Mediterraneo is more than just an Italian restaurant; it is a vibrant community hub that combines fine dining with a lively sports bar and a unique video arcade experience. The family-style sports lounge, introduced in 2020, offers a welcoming space where families can enjoy meals while children engage with arcade games. This innovative concept was born from the Croce family’s desire to create a family-friendly environment that blends entertainment with quality dining. Despite regulatory challenges in unincorporated San Diego County regarding arcade games in establishments serving alcohol, the Croce family successfully worked with local authorities to change the law, allowing Mediterraneo to offer this distinctive experience legally and safely[4].

The menu at Mediterraneo features a variety of Italian classics, with a special emphasis on Sicilian cuisine. Guests can savor dishes like spicy linguine with seafood, handmade pastas, and house-made sauces that reflect the rich culinary traditions of the Mediterranean region. The restaurant also caters to diverse dietary preferences, offering vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free options. Complementing the food is a full bar serving carefully crafted cocktails, including house-made lemoncello and orange-cello, which have become favorites among patrons[3].

The ambiance at Mediterraneo strikes a perfect balance between upscale and casual, making it suitable for couples, families, and groups of friends alike. The outdoor seating area enhances the dining experience, especially for those who enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with fresh air. The attentive service and quaint décor contribute to a memorable visit, as reflected in numerous positive reviews praising the authenticity of the food and the warmth of the hospitality[3].

Located in the Alpine Creek Shopping Center, Mediterraneo has become a cornerstone of the local dining scene. The Croce family’s commitment to quality and community is evident not only in their food but also in their engagement with customers and local initiatives. Whether you are seeking a romantic dinner, a lively sports viewing experience, or a fun outing with family and friends, Mediterraneo offers a unique blend of Italian culinary excellence and entertainment that sets it apart in Alpine, California[5][7].

For reservations or inquiries, Mediterraneo can be reached by phone at +1 619-445-9902, where the staff is ready to welcome guests and ensure an exceptional dining experience that honors the rich heritage of Sicilian cuisine and family hospitality[1][3].

Ever since ownership changed hands, this place has unfortunately gone downhill. Prices have increased, while the quality of the food seems to have declined. On our most recent visit, the food was insanely salty. We ordered two $20 burgers to go and literally threw both of them away after one bite it was like biting into a salt lick. Even more disappointing is witnessing the way the owners sometimes speak to and treat their employees. We’ve personally seen employees being spoken to in a degrading and unnecessarily harsh manner, right in front of customers. Regardless of what may be happening behind the scenes, treating employees that way publicly is uncomfortable to watch and certainly doesn’t create a welcoming atmosphere. Then there’s the Mercedes parked under a canopy out front. Are they raffling it off, or is the restaurant now a car dealership? Either way, it feels very tacky and completely out of place for what used to be a great local spot. Unfortunately, all of these changes have significantly reduced how often we visit and how much we spend. We used to regularly come in for dinner and drinks. Now, we pretty much only stop in for drinks so we can visit our bartender frien

The food is great. Honestly it’s the ONLY reason I come back. The waitresses there are so rude! I have yet to have a pleasant experience with them so I stopped going in to eat and just order to go and they continue to have no respect or care. They look annoyed. Im guessing they pre-judge people and treat the ones they think won’t tip like crap. Jokes on them. I tip very well but you actually have to be a decent person to get it. Such a shame. I really love to support local businesses, especially family owned. But they really need to work on their girls since they kind of are the face of the restaurant.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mediterraneo delivers an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed, creating the perfect setting for both casual dinners and special occasions. The restaurant strikes a great balance between elegance and comfort, making guests feel welcome the moment they walk through the door. The food is truly top-tier. Every dish was prepared with care, presented beautifully, and full of authentic flavor. The pasta was rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked, while the pizza featured fresh ingredients, a crisp crust, and outstanding flavor in every bite. It is clear that quality and consistency are a priority in the kitchen. Equally impressive was the service. The staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely focused on providing a great dining experience without ever feeling intrusive. In a city filled with dining options, Mediterraneo stands out for its exceptional food, welcoming environment, and outstanding hospitality. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality Italian cuisine and a memorable dining experience. We look forward to returning soon.

Had a great experience tonight. Food was good. Well staffed and checked up on us throughout our visit. I got the Old Fashioned and special Sword Fish. My friend got the Kobe sliders. Worth the drive to get here.
